Waipapa,
The University Marae
The
focal point for Maori student life at The University
of Auckland is the University Marae, Waipapa.
It's situated next to the Maori Studies Department
and is the venue for a range of activities throughout
the year. The wharenui is called Tanenuiarangi,
and the whare-kai, Reipa, is the venue for weekly
Kapa Haka practises

The
James Henare Maori Research Centre, at the University
of Auckland, Aotearoa / New Zealand.
The
Centre is named in honour of the late Sir James
Henare, an eminent Mäori leader and scholar, who
played a key role in impressing on the University
the importance of honouring its responsibilities
in these matters. Richard Benton, Director of the Centre 1999-2003,
has been associated with ICEL since the 5th Conference
in Cape Town in 1996. He was elected to the International
Steering Committee at the 6th Conference in Tampere,
Finland, in 1998 and was convenor of the academic
programme committee for the ICEL 2000 Conference.
